Public Information Meetings July 14

Based on public input and feedback from the Indianapolis City Planners Office, we have made some changes to our layout and number of tiny houses. We are planning two public information meetings (one in-person and one virtual) Tuesday, July 14 to give people an opportunity to learn more about these changes.

The in-person meeting will be July 14 at 6:30 PM in the Sanctuary of Lynhurst Baptist Church. The address is 1250 S. Lynhurst Dr. Indianapolis. Those in attendance will be required to wear masks and practice social distancing according to recommended COVID 19 guidelines. For those who are in high-risk health categories or concerned about meeting in public, we will have a virtual meeting via Zoom the same evening beginning at 8:00 PM. To participate in this meeting, simply click on this link after 7:55 PM on Tuesday, July 14. For the virtual meeting, participants will be able to type questions in the chatbox.

As can be seen in the design layout below, we have made some changes to our plans to conform with requests from neighbors and city planners. We have decreased the final number of houses from 28 to 18. We have added a bike storage building where residents can store their bicycles. We have added a sidewalk along the Lynhurst side of the property and are working with other local agencies to lobby for additional sidewalks to make a paved walking path all the way to Washington St for easier access to IndyGo buses. We are also developing plans to add recreational amenities to the old baseball diamond area to convert it into a pocket park that will be available to both residents and neighbors for recreation and community events.

To hear more about our updated plans before we apply for our zoning change, feel free to attend one of the public information meetings below.

I currently serve as the North American team lead for Communitas International, a network of missional and microchurch practitioners that starts and shapes faith communities that love like Jesus in their neighborhoods. In this role, I have the privilege of working with a great team that shares in the vision of reimaging how faith communities engage in their communities to bring the tangible goodness of God to the lives of those who are marginalized and most vulnerable. Prior to this, I lead teams in Indianapolis, IN that focused on addressing the issue of homelessness in various ways. This included serving as an outreach advocate for Food 4 Souls and starting Circle City Village, a team that is working to build the first tiny house village in Indianapolis for people transitioning out of homelessness. Diakonos Community, our core community, worked with low-income apartment buildings where those transitioning out of homelessness were moved to help build community among residents and provide spiritual formation opportunities for those who desired it. I am blessed to journey through life with an amazing wife who is gifted in so many ways of her own and challenges me to keep growing every day. We also have three daughters who are beginning to blaze their own paths in the world and amaze us with their giftedness and kindness.
